Chalk Pastel, October 2014
In a work of seeing color where it’s only faintly present, using chalk pastel allowed me to mix and layer colors with ease. The exact center of the piece is not any of the distinct features of the pig, forcing the viewer’s eyes to move around the more detailed or interesting areas. The snout, eye, and ear create a line from the left to the right of the piece at a slight slant. A sideways “U” is formed by that line, the blue pole, and the leg. These shapes formed by the pig’s features help enhance how the pig is interesting despite not being in action.
